Manifesto of the procession for more than two months we know of the plight of refugees from the Horn of Africa
in the hands of smugglers in the desert of Sinai. We know this thanks to family and friends of the hostages and we follow with concern
day after day, their lives.
Initially we come into contact with 80 Eritreans who came from Libya, then we
heard from more than 170 hostages, for a total of 250 refugees seized. We do not know what happened to
have made 100 of them, allegedly transferred or sold to another group of traffickers. Between 28
November and 12 December 2010, eight people were killed and four were subjected to a
surgery for the removal of a kidney as a form of payment of ransom. In addition
that, with the hostages, it performs an everyday violence, including sexual.
are chained, starved and kept in inhumane conditions. A few days ago we know the existence of another group of 30 refugees
seized. The only people who have come out of this nightmare are those who have had the opportunity to
pay the ransom with the help of their family and friends.
These are the facts for which I daily witness the hostages and painful.
Two months passed in silence and inertia of the international community. But the International Community
can not possibly be considered a stranger to this affair. It can not be concealed
fact that this dramatic situation is one of the consequences of European policy of closing borders
that more and more, by building walls and physical or legal administrative
away people who seek protection from our continent.
We urge that, without further ado, we mobilize the international community, both

international protection they need and to which they are entitled. In particular through a plan of "humanitarian evacuation"
and a project for the reception of refugees in EU territory.
an international commitment that necessarily must be translated into a strategy of cooperation with Egypt and Israel, that
to their commitments and rights of refugees.
Otherwise, the fate of those refugees whose fate is abandoned to the mercy of ruthless kidnappers.
A candlelight vigil to denounce and testify, made of light and silence.
