Torchlight for the release of refugees seized in Sinai Steps of the Capitol - Rome February 1, 2011 18.00

Manifesto of the procession for more than two months we know of the plight of refugees from the Horn of Africa
in the hands of smugglers in the desert of Sinai. We know this thanks to family and friends of the hostages and we follow with concern
day after day, their lives.
Initially we come into contact with 80 Eritreans who came from Libya, then we
heard from more than 170 hostages, for a total of 250 refugees seized. We do not know what happened to
have made 100 of them, allegedly transferred or sold to another group of traffickers. Between 28
November and 12 December 2010, eight people were killed and four were subjected to a
surgery for the removal of a kidney as a form of payment of ransom. In addition
that, with the hostages, it performs an everyday violence, including sexual.
are chained, starved and kept in inhumane conditions. A few days ago we know the existence of another group of 30 refugees
seized. The only people who have come out of this nightmare are those who have had the opportunity to
pay the ransom with the help of their family and friends.
These are the facts for which I daily witness the hostages and painful.
Two months passed in silence and inertia of the international community. But the International Community
can not possibly be considered a stranger to this affair. It can not be concealed
fact that this dramatic situation is one of the consequences of European policy of closing borders
that more and more, by building walls and physical or legal administrative
away people who seek protection from our continent.
We urge that, without further ado, we mobilize the international community, both
combat trafficking in human beings is to ensure that these people
international protection they need and to which they are entitled. In particular through a plan of "humanitarian evacuation"
and a project for the reception of refugees in EU territory.
an international commitment that necessarily must be translated into a strategy of cooperation with Egypt and Israel, that
to their commitments and rights of refugees.
Otherwise, the fate of those refugees whose fate is abandoned to the mercy of ruthless kidnappers.
A candlelight vigil to denounce and testify, made of light and silence.

Sinai: the continuing drama of the hostages Eritreans. Did the Israelis

January 11, 2011
Sinai: the continuing drama of the hostages Eritreans.
Habeshia The Agency, a telephone connection with the hostages, appealed to Europe.

“Ore 10.36, arriva una telefonata dai ostaggi eritrei nel Sinai, raccontano le quattro donne che stamattina hanno dovuto subire per l’ennesima volta sexually assaulted by a pack of raiders repeatedly because they do not pay the ransom demanded by the smugglers, "lets you know Don Mussie. The group of hostages, originally formed by some 250 Eritrean refugees, of which about eighty parties Libya had paid about $ 2,000 each to reach Israel, a figure that traffickers, after arriving in Egypt, decided to increase to 8 thousand to continue toward the goal, many of them were killed, others released after payment of ransom, and about half are still at the mercy of marauders. A nothing is worth the EU resolution adopted on 16 December in Strasbourg in which "urge the Egyptian authorities to take all measures necessary to ensure the release of the Eritreans held hostage. " In Sinai, the situation is getting worse. "One of the pregnant women is very ill, after she was beaten by traffickers ... All this happened this morning, all this is happening while the "civilized" world is watching it, distracted by other issues, some for indifference to this tragedy, for those who do not irritate the governments of the region, the fact is that there is a significant silence, no one is doing anything to eradicate this scourge of our times, you do not see any results, "continues Don Mussie claiming the need for a concrete shelter for the stranded refugees Egypt and Libya not only subjected to inhuman conditions by the traffickers, but also by the police in the prisons of Egypt and Libya.

Pope Benedict XVI appeals for the release of the hostages

We are grateful to the Pope, who wanted to remember in your prayers , referring to the international community to respect the rights of refugees and displaced persons.
We hope that the Pope's appeal is accepted by international authorities, particularly the Egyptian government, the only one who can intervene for the Liberation of Eritrean refugees seized in the Sinai desert, in chains for more than a month. The accounts sent to us are very serious, especially in pregnant women forced to suffer hunger and thirst, even at great risk to the fetus. The injured people were struck by the continual need of medical care, there are many others who are sick, debilitated by hunger and the constant abuse.
hope that the European states accepting the Pope's urgent appeal for the liberation and respect the rights of these displaced Eritreans, Ethiopians, Sudanese and Somalis make the necessary diplomatic steps on the Egyptian government, to enable it to react to save the life of hundreds of refugees and displaced persons nelle mani dei predoni del deserto.
Sta sera scade il secondo ultimatum dato dai sequestratori ai profughi, non sappiamo cosa potrà accadere allo scadere di questo ultimatum, sollecitiamo le autorità egiziane ad intervenire il più presto possibile.

She ends the second week ultimatum given by the kidnappers to refugees, we do not know what will happen on the expiry of this ultimatum, we urge the Egyptian Authorities to Intervene at the Earliest Opportunity. Br

His Holiness Benedict XVI received in audience the community of the Pontifical Ethiopian College

Benedict XVI to the community of the Pontifical Ethiopian College in Vatican

The holiness of priests
sign of hope for the Church

The holiness of the priests as a sign of hope for the Church and the world has been given by the Pope to the community of the Pontifical Ethiopian College in Vatican, during the hearing on Saturday morning, January 29, in the Hall of the Popes. The occasion was the celebration of the sesquicentennial anniversary of the death of St. Justin De Jacobis, to whom Benedict XVI illustrated the exemplary. This discourse.

Dear brothers and sisters!
am pleased to welcome for the happy occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth into heaven of St. Justin De Jacobis. I cordially greet all of you, dear priests and seminarians of the Pontifical Ethiopian College, which Divine Providence has placed to live near the tomb of the Apostle Peter, the sign of the ancient and profound bonds of communion that unite the Church in Ethiopia and Eritrea with the Apostolic See. I greet in particular the Rector, Teclezghi Bahta father, whom I thank for the kind words with which he introduced our meeting, recalling the diverse and significant circumstances that have suggested. I greet with special affection and now, with you, I like to think your communities of origin.
I would now like to refer to the luminous figure of St. Justin De Jacobis, which have celebrated the important anniversary on July 31. Worthy son of Saint Vincent de 'Paoli, St. Justin lived in an exemplary way his "be all things to everyone," especially in the service of the Abyssinian people. Posted at thirty-eight years by the then Prefect of Propaganda Fide , Cardinal Franzoni, as a missionary in Ethiopia, in Tigray, worked at first and then to Adua Guala, where immediately thought to form the Ethiopian priests, giving rise to a seminar called "College of the Immaculate Conception." With his zealous ministry worked tirelessly for that portion of God's people find the original fervor of faith sown by the first evangelist St. Frumentius (see PL 21, 473-80). Justin realized that vision with attention to cultural context must be a privileged path on which God's grace would form new generations of Christians. Learning the local language and promoting the centuries-old tradition of the liturgical rite of those communities, he also strove for an effective ecumenical work. For over twenty years his generous ministry, priestly and episcopal first then went to the benefit of those who met and loved her as living members of the people in his care.
For his passion for education, especially in the training of priests, can rightly be considered the patron of your college, in fact, even today this worthy institution welcomes priests and candidates for the priesthood supported in their efforts of theological, spiritual and pastoral. Re-entering the community of origin, or accompanying their compatriots working abroad, inspiring in everyone know the love of God and the Church, following the example of St. Justin De Jacobis. He crowned his fruitful assistance the civil and religious life of the peoples of Abyssinia with the gift of his life, quietly returned to God after much suffering and persecution. He was beatified by Pope Pius XII Ven June 25, 1939 and canonized by the Servant of God Paul VI October 26, 1975.
For you, dear priests and seminarians, is traced the path of holiness! Christ continues to be present in the world and prove through those who, like St. Justin De Jacobis, and allow animated by his Spirit. We are reminded of the Second Vatican Council which, inter alia, states: "In the life of those who, sharing in our humanity, are however more perfectly transformed into the image of Christ (see 2 Cor 3, 18), God manifests strongly to men his presence and his face. In them is He Himself who speaks to us and shows us the sign of His Kingdom "(Constitution dog. Lumen Gentium, 50).
Christ, the eternal Priest of the New Covenant, which is the special vocation to the priesthood has "conquered" our life, does not suppress the characteristic qualities of the person, on the contrary, high, noble, and making them his own, calling them to serve his mystery and his work. God also demands of everyone "to show in future centuries to the extraordinary riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus "(Eph 2, 7). Although the character of the vocation of each, we are not separated from us, but we are united in communion within a single spiritual organism. We are called to form the whole Christ, summed up a unit in the Lord, enlivened by his Spirit to be his " pleroma " and enrich the praise that he rises to the Father. Christ is inseparable from the Church which is His Body. Is in the Church that Christ unites them to Himself and the baptized, nourished at the Eucharistic table, making them partakers of his glorious life (cf. Lumen Gentium , 48). Holiness is therefore placed in the heart of the mystery of the Church and is la vocazione a cui tutti siamo chiamati.
I am sure that the experience of communion in Rome will also help you make a valuable contribution to the growth and peaceful coexistence of your beloved nation. I accompany you on your way with my prayer and the intercession of Saint Justin De Jacobis and the Virgin Mary, I cordially impart my Apostolic Blessing, which I willingly extend to the Sisters of Maria Bambina, staff of the House and all your loved ones .
